proof-reading, editing, writing, transcription and localisation

Services October 14, 2009

I offer a proof-reading and copy-editing, writing, transcription, localisation and typing service from my base in Birmingham.

I can do anything from checking through a proof copy for simple errors;  advising on sentence structure, the organisation of your information and style issues; writing new content from your notes or suggestions; writing totally new content to a brief from you (e-books, advertisements, advertorials, marketing brochures, sales letters … ); localising your website into British English; transcribing taped interviews, meetings or dictations; to typing up your handwritten notes.

See here for more information …

For editing work I work primarily in Microsoft Word, using the “track changes” feature to show you exactly what I’m suggesting should be taken out, added in or changed.  That way, you still retain control over your text and can decide which of my suggestions to use. You email me your document, and I email it back to you. If I’m working on a web page or PDF document for you, I use software which allows me to mark up changes on your document which are visible in any pdf viewer.

Having worked for an American company in the past, I’m happy to work with both British and American English, and have customers on both sides of the ocean.

For shorter items such as blog posts, essays and articles, I offer a 48-hour and 24-hour turnaround service.  For each of these, I need as much notice of the deadline as possible, but at least 48 hours before the work is to start.  For example, your essay is due in on Friday morning.  To get it to you by Thursday evening, I will need to be told on Sunday evening and be given the work on Tuesday evening, for the 48-hour turnaround.

Please note: I am in the UK and work in a UK timezone. This is why I need warning before undertaking 24- or 48- hour turnaround work!

If you’re a web designer or virtual assistant and can use my services to complement your own, I’m happy for you to outsource the work to me and charge your client for your services as normal.

Payment is due when I have completed the work.  I will always give a quotation for the work in advance.  If there is a problem or the work will take longer than anticipated, I will contact you as quickly as I can.

I accept payment by PayPal*, sterling cheque, bank transfer or cash. I will provide PayPal and cheque payable and/or bank transfer details when invoicing you.
*please note, there is an additional charge if you choose to pay by PayPal. Although it’s convenient, it does charge me for receiving money, so I pass on some of that charge to you.

Contact me via email or via my contact form.
